ABOUT INDOPHYLLIA CORAL

Indophyllia corals are a fascinating species of large-polyp stony (LPS) corals known for their vibrant, fluorescent colors and striking, disc-like shape. These corals have thick, fleshy polyps that can come in various hues, including green, orange, and red, often with bold patterns. Indophyllia corals are relatively hardy and thrive in moderate lighting and water flow, making them a great choice for both beginner and advanced reef aquarists. Their slow growth and captivating appearance make them an eye-catching addition to any reef tank.

Lighting Requirements for Indophyllia Coral

Indophyllia corals prefer moderate lighting. They do well in environments with indirect to moderate light, as their natural habitat typically offers some shade and filtered light.

  • Ideal PAR Range:
    100–200 PAR

    • 100–150 PAR: Ideal for vibrant coloration and healthy growth.

    • 150–200 PAR: Tolerated, but should be introduced gradually to prevent light stress.

  • Spectrum:

    • A blue-dominant spectrum (420–470nm) enhances the coral’s coloration and supports healthy growth.

    • Full-spectrum lighting is also suitable for overall health and well-being.

  • Lighting Type:

    • Indophyllia corals thrive under LED, T5HO, or metal halide lighting, provided the light intensity is moderate and not too intense.

  • Placement Tips:

    • Best placed in mid to lower areas of the tank where lighting is moderate and indirect.

Water Flow Requirements for Indophyllia Coral

Indophyllia corals prefer gentle to moderate water flow. They thrive in areas with soft, indirect currents. Strong or direct water movement can cause stress and negatively impact the coral's health.

  • Flow Type:

    • Gentle to moderate, indirect flow is ideal.

    • Avoid placing the coral in high-flow areas to prevent tissue damage and retraction of polyps.

  • Why It Matters:
Proper water flow helps the coral with nutrient uptake, removes debris, and promotes healthy polyp extension.

  • Placement Tips:

    • Best positioned in an area with calm, steady water movement, such as lower or mid-level parts of the tank.
