The orange tube anemone (Cerianthus membranaceus) is a captivating marine invertebrate characterized by its vibrant orange coloration, cylindrical tube-like body, and two distinct whorls of tentacles. It constructs a tough, leathery tube from mucus and specialized stinging cells, often embedded with sand, which it burrows into soft substrates like sand or mud. Unlike true sea anemones, it lacks a pedal disc and cannot retract its tentacles, though the entire animal can quickly withdraw into its protective tube when disturbed. These anemones are non-photosynthetic and feed by using their long, stinging outer tentacles to capture small fish, plankton, and other small invertebrates, which are then transferred to the central mouth by shorter inner tentacles.
