ABOUT FROGSPAWN CORAL

Frogspawn corals are striking, large polyp stony (LPS) corals known for their unique, branching structure and vibrant, pastel-colored tentacles. They are relatively easy to care for and make a great addition to reef aquariums. Frogspawn corals thrive in moderate to high light and flow, and their long, flowing tentacles add dynamic movement to the tank. Ideal for both beginners and seasoned hobbyists, they can tolerate a range of water conditions, though stability is key for their health.

Lighting Requirements for Frogspawn Coral

Frogspawn corals prefer moderate to high lighting. They can tolerate a range of light intensities but thrive under bright, but not overwhelming, light for optimal health and coloration.

• Ideal PAR Range:
  150–250 PAR
  
  

• 150–200 PAR: Best for moderate light, providing steady growth and coloration.
  
  

• 200–250 PAR: Ideal for vibrant color and optimal growth, but should be monitored to avoid stressing the coral.
  
  

• Spectrum:
  
  

• A blue-dominant spectrum (420–470nm) enhances the coral's colors and health.
  
  

• A full-spectrum light, blending blue and white, is also effective for overall growth and appearance.

• Frogspawn corals do well under LEDs, T5HO, or metal halide lighting setups, as long as the intensity remains within the recommended PAR range.

• Place them in the mid to upper sections of the tank, where light intensity is higher but not overwhelming.

Water Flow Requirements for Frogspawn Coral

Frogspawn corals thrive in moderate to gentle, indirect water flow. They need enough movement to encourage healthy polyp extension but should not be subjected to strong currents.

• The flow should be steady but not too forceful, allowing the tentacles to sway without being whipped around by strong currents.
  
  

• Why It Matters:
  Proper flow helps with nutrient exchange, waste removal, and prevents debris buildup on the coral's surface. Too much flow can cause the coral to retract or become stressed.

• Position them in areas with gentle to moderate flow, such as the edges of areas with natural currents or near powerheads with diffused flow.
