XXL WYSIWYG Ultra Bubble Coral 6" (Plerogyra sinuosa)

You are buying the exact coral in the photo — an XXL Ultra Bubble Coral measuring roughly 6 inches across, photographed under blue spectrum reef lighting. The colony is packed with dozens of fully inflated vesicles, each one a translucent pearl blue with fine parallel striations running across the surface, and a scatter of them are marked with bright chartreuse-green blotches and edging that lift the whole piece out of a single flat color. At this size the bubbles overlap into a solid dome that moves as one mass in the current. conditioned in our Key West systems, Florida under FL Aquaculture Certificate #AQ0254072.

About Bubble Coral (Plerogyra sinuosa)

Bubble corals inflate their vesicles during the day to expose more tissue to the light, then deflate at night and put out feeding tentacles — the visual change between the two states is dramatic and is a large part of why people keep them. Fully grown 6-inch colonies are far less common in the trade than the 2 to 3 inch pieces normally offered, because the coral grows slowly and large wild colonies ship poorly; the vesicles are fragile and tear easily in transit. This one was grown out here in Key West, so it is acclimated to captive conditions and has intact, undamaged tissue across every bubble.

Care Guide

Easy to keep provided you respect two things: keep the flow gentle, and never handle the inflated vesicles.

• Lighting: Medium — PAR 100–200. Moderate light keeps the vesicles fully inflated without bleaching the blue.
• Flow: Low — this matters more than anything else. Strong flow shreds the vesicles and prevents inflation.
• Placement: Sandbed or lower rockwork on a stable flat surface, away from any powerhead.
• Feeding: Medium — mysis or chopped meaty foods in the evening once the feeding tentacles emerge.
• Aggression: High — long nocturnal sweeper tentacles. Give it six inches of clearance from other corals in every direction.
• Water Parameters: Temp 76–78°F, salinity 1.025–1.026, Alk 8–9 dKH, Ca 420–440, Mg 1300–1400. Stability matters more than exact numbers.
