This is an Alveopora flowerpot coral. Alveopora typically has 12 tentacles per polyp, compared with 24 in Goniopora, but a retracted coral should not be reidentified from appearance alone.

Care Guide

• Lighting: Begin around 50–100 PAR and acclimate gradually. Avoid abrupt changes in intensity or spectrum.
• Flow: Use moderate, varied indirect flow and judge it by the animal: the polyps should extend and move gently without being folded or held closed.
• Placement: Use a secure lower-to-middle position with room for full extension and keep sediment from settling around the living tissue.
• Feeding: Feeding is optional but beneficial. Offer a small portion of fine planktonic food once or twice weekly and keep nutrients within the aquarium’s normal range.
• Spacing: Treat as semi-aggressive with contact risk. Start with at least 4 inches of clearance and prevent extended polyps from touching neighboring corals.

Keep salinity and alkalinity stable, change one variable at a time, and use sustained polyp extension as feedback. Do not diagnose a closed flowerpot coral from one parameter or one day of behavior alone.
