About this coral
Pink Fiji Bird’s Nest is a bird’s nest coral (Seriatopora), the fine-branched SPS that grows into a tight thicket. Ours grows pink-lavender branches with pink polyps. The photo shows the colony in our Key West system that your frag is cut from.
What you get
One frag about 3/4 to 1 inch, cut to order from the colony in the photo and mounted on a plug. Pick your timing at checkout:
- Fresh cut: cut and shipped on the next Tuesday or Wednesday ship day.
- Grow-out: cut now and held about 3 weeks so the base encrusts onto the plug, then shipped.
Same price either way. A new frag will not have the branch density of the colony in the photo. That fills in as it grows.
What to expect when it arrives
The polyps will be pulled in and the color duller than the photo. That is normal after a night in a bag. Float the sealed bag 15 minutes, drip acclimate 45 minutes, dip the frag, and start it low and out of direct flow for the first week. Handle it by the plug. The branch tips snap if you pinch them.
Where bird’s nest goes wrong
Bird’s nest usually shows trouble before other SPS do. When alkalinity or temperature swings, tissue can start peeling from the base upward, and it moves fast. Hold alkalinity steady instead of chasing a number, and keep water moving through the branches so detritus does not settle inside the thicket.
