Herpolitha Show Piece

This Herpolitha Show Piece is an approximately 8-inch free-living tongue coral that has been maintained in our Key West systems for more than a year. Its yellow coloration is strongest under blue reef lighting, and the colony regularly extends its feeding tentacles.

The trade name “tongue coral” can refer to more than one related genus, so this listing retains the documented Herpolitha identification without assigning an unsupported species. Place the colony flat on an open sand bed or fine rubble. Do not wedge it into rockwork; free-living corals can shift position and abrade their tissue on sharp surfaces.

• Lighting: Low to moderate (50–100 PAR initially; acclimate gradually)
• Flow: Low to moderate, gentle and indirect
• Placement: Open sand bed or fine rubble; do not glue or wedge into rockwork
• Feeding: Photosynthetic; optional small meaty foods about once weekly
• Aggression: Peaceful; leave 4–6 inches of open sand so movement does not bring it into contact with neighbors
