About this coral
You are buying the exact coral in the photo. This is a Midnight Sun Alveopora colony with full, extended polyps across the whole piece. Under blue spectrum reef lighting each polyp opens into a ring of 12 rounded tentacles in bright neon green, with a glowing yellow-green star at the center around a small mouth. The stalks underneath are a deep blue-violet, so the green heads look like they are floating over a dark base. Conditioned in our Key West systems and photographed in our showroom.
About Alveopora (Alveopora sp.)
Alveopora is a long-polyp LPS often confused with Goniopora. The easy way to tell them apart is the tentacle count: Alveopora has 12 tentacles per polyp, Goniopora has 24. The polyps extend on long stalks and sway in the current, which adds constant motion to a reef tank. Alveopora is generally considered hardier than Goniopora, and a colony that is already eating and fully extended in a conditioned system is a solid start.
Care Guide
Moderate care. Alveopora rewards steady feeding and stable water with full polyp extension and steady growth.
- Lighting: Medium — PAR 100–200. Acclimate it to new lighting over a week or two.
- Flow: Medium — enough random flow to keep the polyps moving, never a direct jet.
- Placement: Sandbed or lower rockwork, with room for the polyps to extend fully.
- Feeding: High — fine plankton, powdered coral foods, and amino acids several times a week.
- Aggression: Peaceful. Keep it clear of aggressive neighbors with long sweepers.
- Water Parameters: Temp 76–78°F, salinity 1.025–1.026, Alk 8–9 dKH, Ca 420–440, Mg 1300–1400. Stability matters more than exact numbers.
