About this coral

You are buying the exact coral in the photo. This is a 4″ Frosted War Paint Scoly. Under blue spectrum reef lighting the disc is deep blue, with bright aqua bands frosted across it from the mouth out to the rim. A neon red ring circles the mouth and throws flame-shaped streaks out into the blue, and aqua bumps line the inside of the mouth. A thin red edge runs along the outer rim. Conditioned in our Key West systems and photographed in our showroom.

About War Paint Scolymia (Scoly)

Scolys are large single-polyp LPS corals with fleshy, rounded discs. War Paint is named for streaked bands that look brushed on by hand. A frosted War Paint carries a pale aqua overlay on top of the base color. On this one the frosting runs in wide bands, and the red ring around the mouth is the first thing you see.

Care Guide

Easy to moderate care. Scolys reward lower light, gentle flow and regular feeding with full inflation and steady growth.

  • Lighting: Low to Medium — PAR 50–150. Too much light can fade the color.
  • Flow: Low to moderate — enough to keep it clean without pushing the tissue around.
  • Placement: Sandbed or the lowest rock, where it can fully inflate.
  • Feeding: High — meaty foods like mysis, chopped shrimp or coral pellets placed on its mouth once or twice a week. Scolys grow faster and hold color better when fed.
  • Aggression: Semi-aggressive. It can put out sweepers at night, so give it a few inches of space.
  • Water Parameters: Temp 76–78°F, salinity 1.025–1.026, Alk 8–9 dKH, Ca 420–440, Mg 1300–1400. Stability matters more than exact numbers.
