About this coral

You are buying the exact coral in the photo. This is an approximately 3.5″ Ultra War Paint Scoly. Under blue spectrum reef lighting, hot pink and red bands run from the center out to the rim, split by wide royal blue and violet stripes. The center is pink-red with dark blue streaks, and a cluster of pale blue and white flecks sits around the mouth. Small teal-green spots dot the rim. Fine ridges run across the whole disc, so it has texture as well as color. Conditioned in our Key West systems and photographed in our showroom.

About War Paint Scolymia (Scoly)

Scolys are large single-polyp LPS corals with fleshy, rounded discs. War Paint is named for the streaked bands that look brushed on by hand, and no two are alike. This one leans pink and blue, with a bright center that stands out against the striped rim.

Care Guide

Easy to moderate care. Scolys reward lower light, gentle flow and regular feeding with full inflation and steady growth.

  • Lighting: Low to Medium — PAR 50–150. Too much light can fade the color.
  • Flow: Low to moderate — enough to keep it clean without pushing the tissue around.
  • Placement: Sandbed or the lowest rock, where it can fully inflate.
  • Feeding: High — meaty foods like mysis, chopped shrimp or coral pellets placed on its mouth once or twice a week. Scolys grow faster and hold color better when fed.
  • Aggression: Semi-aggressive. It can put out sweepers at night, so give it a few inches of space.
  • Water Parameters: Temp 76–78°F, salinity 1.025–1.026, Alk 8–9 dKH, Ca 420–440, Mg 1300–1400. Stability matters more than exact numbers.
