Lobophyllia Corals

Lobophyllia, commonly known as Lobo Coral or Lobed Brain Coral, is a genus of large polyp stony (LPS) corals that includes several species known for their thick, fleshy texture and vivid color morphs — from neon greens and fiery oranges to deep reds and metallic blues. Native to the Indo-Pacific, Lobos have become a favorite in reef tanks thanks to their moderate care requirements and the bold, sculpted appearance of their oversized polyps. While not ideal for complete beginners, they are far from the most demanding corals — thriving with stable parameters, thoughtful placement, and occasional feeding. Take care when placing them, as Lobos can extend long sweeper tentacles at night capable of stinging nearby corals. With slow but steady growth, a strong feeding response, and striking visual appeal, Lobophyllia is an excellent choice for sandbeds or lower rockwork in a wide range of reef setups.
